Sewer Lining

The City of Margate’s Department of Environmental and Engineering Services has contracted with Insituform to internally line our sanitary sewer mains in your neighborhood to reduce the infiltration of groundwater into our sanitary sewer system.

Work on your sewer main will occur between the hours of 7:00 AM and approximately 3:00 PM. The contractor will notify you 24 - 72  hours in advance of the work affecting your property. Kindly review the Project Schedule to verify the date when work will be performed in your area. Please note that these dates are tentative, so we recommend checking back 24 hours prior to your scheduled date for confirmation.

While the work is being performed, your sewer service connection will be temporarily out of service during the time frame indicated above.  To avoid backup of sewage into your residence or business we recommend you take the following precautions during this time:

  • DO NOT flush toilets
  • DO NOT take showers or baths
  • DO NOT wash clothes
  • DO NOT wash dishes
  • DO NOT run faucets, spigots, or other water fixtures
  • TURN OFF  sump pumps which are connected to the sewer service.

If any problem occurs with your sewer service during this rehabilitation process, please contact Insituform’s on-site representatives. If you have any questions after Insituform’s completion of the work, please contact their local representative listed below, not a plumber.

Any fumes emitted from the work are non-toxic.  However, if you smell unpleasant odors, like plastic or glue, inside your home during the work, this may be the result of a missing trap seal, which may be caused by a dry or broken sewer trap.

To recreate a proper trap seal, pour 1 gallon of water down each floor drain and any rarely used fixtures (sinks, tubs, toilets, etc.) to ensure that a water barrier is maintained in the traps.  If this does not prevent odors from entering your home, your trap may require repair by a plumber.  In the meantime, you may need to open windows to allow ventilation or temporarily place plastic bags filled with water over the drain to prevent the backflow of odors into the building.

If you continue to smell odors, please call the Insituform representative, Jason Burnell (904) 219-3809.

Street Parking Requirements

The work requires large trucks to block the center of the road.  Any cars parked along the sides of the road will obstruct traffic in violation of F.S. 316.1945(1)(a)6.  Accordingly, we ask that no one park on the road between 7:00am and 7:00pm on your schedule date. Should you have any questions regarding the parking requirements, please contact DEES at (954) 972-0828.
