Major Alain “Al” Banatte oversees the Investigative Services Bureau for the Margate Police Department. Major Banatte started his career with the Margate Police Department in 2006 as a Patrol Officer. He has worked as a detective in the Special Operations Division investigating cases that included vice, intelligence, and narcotics. During his tenure as a detective, he was detached as a member of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Task Force and investigated federal narcotics trafficking cases.
In 2014, Major Banatte was promoted to Sergeant and spent two years as a patrol supervisor. From 2016 through 2018, he was the Sergeant in charge of the Community Services Division. In 2018, Banatte became a supervisor in the Investigative Services Bureau. In 2020, Banatte was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. In 2021, he was assigned as the commander of the Investigative Services Division. In 2024, he was promoted to the rank of Major.
Major Banatte is the commander of the Special Response Team and a Public Information Officer. In 2011, he received the Officer of the Year Award. Major Banatte holds a Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Leadership from St. Thomas University. He also attended the 86th class of the Southern Police Institutes Command Officer Development Course.
