Biography
Commissioner Joanne Simone has lived in Margate since 1989 and is a retired Broward County school teacher of 35 years. She was elected Commissioner in November 2012 and re-elected in November 2014, 2018, and 2022.
She currently serves on the following boards/committees:
- Margate Community Redevelopment Agency
- Northwest Focal Point Senior Center District
- Employee Benefit Trust Fund Board
She is also a trained member of C.E.R.T. (Community Emergency Response Team) and a member of First United Methodist of Coral Springs. Joanne also volunteers in Shop with a Hero, Feeding South Florida, and various Hope South Florida projects. She is an avid animal lover and enjoys outdoor activities. In 2024, she received a Gold Certificate of Excellence from the Florida League of Cities' Certificate Program for Elected Municipal Officials.
