Community Relations

The Margate Police Department is committed to establishing close ties with the community and responding to community needs.  Identifying and rectifying actions, procedures and attitudes that may lead to unrest within the community at an early stage is of paramount importance in establishing and maintaining positive community relations.  The Community Relations Unit assists the Police Department in maintaining positive relations with the citizens of this community.

The Community Relations Unit is also responsible for:

  • Neighborhood Watch and community meetings.
  • Conducting security inspections for businesses.
  • Crime Prevention lectures.
  • Registering businesses for the Open and Empty Program.
  • Trespass Program registration.
  • Running the Margate Police Department Facebook and Instagram pages! @MargateFLPolice (Check them out!)
  • Planning Margate PD community related events such as Trunk or Treat, National Night Out, Coffee with a Cop and many others!

School Resource Officers

A School Resource Officer is a police officer assigned to the Community Involvement Bureau for the purpose of extending the services of the Margate Police Department to the schools within the municipal limits of the City of Margate. 

A  D.A.R.E. officer is a School Resource Officer assigned to a school for the purpose of teaching the D.A.R.E. curriculum in area elementary schools.  The D.A.R.E. officer establishes a class schedule to teach the curriculum to all applicable students. This officer also offers other related classes to lower grade level students, provides guidance to students in curriculum related matters, works with the school guidance personnel. Your child's School Resource Officer is a great person should you have any police related questions and/or concerns! Say hello to your school's SRO!

Margate Police Explorer Program

The mission of the Margate Police Department Explorer Program is to guide young adults to a better path for the future through a comprehensive program of training, competition, practical experiences, leadership, teamwork, discipline, friendship, and to assist the Margate Police Department and the citizens of Margate through their commitment to serving their community through community service.

Explorers are mentored by a group of dedicated sworn police employees, who emphasize self-confidence, strong work ethic, accountability, and integrity. This program is designed for young men and women ages 14 through 21 years old and must have a 2.0 GPA who are interested in law enforcement as a potential career. Applicants must have completed the eighth grade and entering ninth grade to be eligible. Applicants must pass a background investigation.
