Roofs shall be structurally sound, watertight and shall prevent rainwater or moisture from entering the walls, ceilings or any other portion of the dwelling, commercial building or structure. All building roofs and gutters shall be kept free of faded or chipped paint and shall be maintained in good repair and in good condition to prevent deterioration, and must be cleaned (pressure and/or chemical), repainted or recovered with like material(s) when twenty-five (25) per cent or more of any exposed roof surface becomes discolored or is scaling. In the event a roof shingle or tile is replaced, the replacement shingle or tile shall be of the closest possible color and shade to the existing roofing shingles or tiles.
Note - Tarps may only be used temporarily in the event of a roof leak. Tarps cannot be used as a permanent solution.
A tarp or other temporary repair is permitted while a building permit application for roof is processing and while the permit is active. The building official is authorized to permit a tarp following the declaration of a state of emergency issued by the Governor for a natural emergency as defined in F.S. 252.34(8) as may be amended from time to time.
