The Margate City Commission has approved a Paid Parental Leave policy to benefit City employees for the birth or adoption of a child or placement of a foster child. This new policy was created to maintain a work culture that supports employees in balancing work responsibilities with the demands of personal and family life.
“As a parent of a young child, I know how important it is to take time for your family during these crucial formative years,” says Mayor Antonio V. Arserio. “The Paid Parental Leave will take a lot of the financial stress off the new parents and is a vital benefit that helps us retain and attract the best employees to serve our Margate residents.”
Under the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA), new parents are allowed unpaid, job-protected leave for up to 12 weeks. Under this new policy, City of Margate full-time and part-time employees — who have been employed with the City for at least 12 months with a minimum of 1,250 work hours — are eligible to receive up to 12 weeks of paid leave on a sliding scale. Eligible employees will receive 100% of their pay for the first four weeks, 50% for the second four weeks, and 25% for the third four weeks.
With approximately 500 employees, the City has a strategic goal of creating a high-performing City team that produces exceptional services for the Margate community.
