Chief Jonathan Shaw was hired with the Margate Police Department in 1997. In 2000 he became a member of the Special Operations Division Entry Team. On October 22, 2002, he became a Field Training Officer and on November 27, 2002, began supplementing his Road Patrol duties as a Bicycle Officer. In 2003, Jon Shaw was assigned to the Criminal Investigations Division where he served as a detective for 2 years. In 2005, he became a member of the Special Response Team while still assigned as a detective.
In 2006 he returned to Road Patrol and was soon promoted to Patrol Sergeant on March 3, 2007. During his 6 years of service as a Sergeant, he has been the supervisor of the Special Response Team, Special Operations Division and the Public Information Officer. In 2013 he was promoted to Lieutenant for the Special Operations Division. On July 13, 2013, he served as a Lieutenant for the Road Patrol Division until 2014 when he was reassigned as the Commander of the Investigative Support Bureau.
While Commander of the Investigative Support Bureau, he attended the FBI National Academy and graduated on September 18, 2015. Shortly after, he was promoted to the rank of Captain. During his time as Captain, he has served as commander of the Field Services Bureau, Support Services Bureau and Investigative Services Bureau.
In October of 2018, Jonathan Shaw was named Chief of the Margate Police Department.
